This week?s category is: Apps for Social Gaming

Words with Friends HD ($2.99) ? This is the ultra popular app that gave social gaming its start, as one of the first iOS titles to offer turn-based multiplayer online gameplay. This ad-free version of the game is a lot like Scrabble, and boasts more than 20 million players world wide. You can play this word game with your friends using Game Center or Facebook, and if you can?t find a friend to play with, you can choose a random opponent. Since its turn-based, you can have up to 20 games going, for plenty of word building fun. There?s also a free version of this app so you can try it out before you buy.

Draw Something ($2.99) ? This ultra fun Pictionary-style app took the world by storm earlier this year when it was first released. It was downloaded millions of times, rocketing it to the top of the charts in the App Store. In this game, you can play with your friends or partner with random strangers to draw detailed masterpieces while your opponent guesses what you?re sketching. This is a turn-based game so you can play more than one match at once, so download this and challenge all of your friends to a game. There?s also a free version of this app so you can try it out before you buy.

Hanging with Friends HD ($2.99) ? Are you a fan of the classic childhood game Hangman? If so, you?ll love this online version that you can play with your friends and family. In this game, players build mystery words to try to stump their friends. The goal is to create words that are tough for your opponents to figure out, but be warned ? you?ll have to solve their ultra hard puzzles too! This is a turn-based game, so you can have up to 20 matches going at once. You can play with friends, or find a random opponent, and with built-in chat you can talk while you play.

Ticket to Ride ($6.99) ? Ticket to Ride is a best selling board game that you can play on your iPad. It?s a lot of fun, especially for those of you who like strategy games. This is a title that you can play in person with up to five people using pass and play, or you can play online with thousands of different opponents, including your friends and family, thanks to Game Center integration. You can even play against people who use the game on their macs or PCs, so this is a great choice if your friends don?t have an iPad.

Wurdle ($1.99) ? Wurdle is a fun, fast-paced word game where the goal is to find and trace as many words as you can before the time runs out. You can use pass and play multiplayer options or play online with your friends and family using Game Center. There are multiple grids, from four by four to eight by eight, which offer varying degrees of difficulty. This is an entirely customizable game, so you can set timers, minimum word lengths, and more, to create the perfect word game for you, your friends, and your family.
