Several families and city officials attended the grand opening of the new Phenix City Youth Sports complex today, July 30. The ceremony took place in front of the pool facility, where families enjoyed free admission for the day.
The complex also includes basketball and tennis courts, a full-size, lighted soccer field, and a party room available for rent.
City officials are hoping the new complex will improve the quality of life for families in the area.
Council member Arthur Day from Phenix City's 3rd District had the honor of cutting the ribbon. "This is a state-of-the-art facility here, and we've been doing this for a few years," says Day. "You know, the previous council started with the ball, but today we made the touchdown. We're excited about it. This should improve our life here in Phenix City as far as recreation."
During the summer, the pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m., and closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. Once school begins, the facility will be opened on Wednesdays only as long as the weather permits.
It's located at 1501 5th Street South in Phenix City, AL.
Admission is $3.
