Florida Elder Care & Senior Health: Housing for Seniors - What are ...

When it comes to selecting the best place for seniors as they age, there are a variety of options. Some are small individual homes that meet the needs of five or six people. Others are large complexes that provide individual apartments or apartment homes. Many communities are independent living facilitates, providing only the basic services such as someone checking on you if they do not see you during the day at all. Others, called assisted living facilities, offer more extensive services, allowing individuals to remain in their home environment and still receive the care they need. A nursing home or skilled nursing facility is the very last resort.

This is a world-wide concern for many seniors. One senior community in the UK, offers apartment homes that can be purchased or rented. There are many similar in the U.S. However, many times families must deal with this on their own. Elderly family members often live with their children. This can be difficult, but it can also be rewarding when the circumstances are conducive to allowing family members a degree of privacy and when not all of the caregiving is on one individual family member.

Finances, family relationship dynamics, and necessity will most likely play a big part in the decisions made.
